Monument to the Indigenous People

Sculpture contains three elements. These are vegetation, a seed, and a human face. Human face represents the Mapuches. Mapuches were the indigenous people that lived on Chile lands. After Chile gained its independence, Mapuche people were transferred to reservations and they reverted back to farming. In 1980s, Chilean Government passed a law and transferred land ownership from collective to land ownership. Therefore many Mapuche people lost their lands.
